Democracy Week is a decentralized community-created collection of events. Want to organize something and bring your magic? Add it to the calendar yourself, it takes a couple of minutes. A rough idea with a date is enough to start.

How to add your event

Everything goes on the same calendar to help us promote events more broadly, include them in our press/media/online promotions, and more. You can share an external link to your event if it’s already posted somewhere else, or set it up directly on Luma, both are fine with us.

Start at lu.ma/democracy and click Submit Event.

The event stays yours: you keep the page, the guest list, and the registrations. We only encourage (optional) two things to help us better promote your event and the week:

Add partner@democracyweek.net as a co-host, and send us an email there.
Add this line to your event description: “This event is a part of DemocracyWeek.net, a week of events helping us celebrate, protect, and revitalize our democracy and our country. And have fun and meet good people while we’re doing it. Find other events and learn more at www.democracyweek.net.”

If your event is tech related, we encourage you to cross-post it to the Tech Week calendar as well, and to bring more conversations around democracy and human flourishing into Tech Week and into tech and entrepreneurship more broadly.

Find Submit Event
On lu.ma/democracy, look for Submit Event. Luma will ask you to sign in or create an account before your event goes through.

Create event

Nothing set up yet. Luma builds the page and handles registrations. Leave the location blank if you are still looking for a venue.

Submit existing Luma event

Already on Luma. Paste the link and it appears on our calendar too. You keep the page, the guest list, and the registrations.

Submit external event

Hosted on Eventbrite, Meetup, Humanitix or your own site. Paste the link. These come through without a cover image, so Luma looks better.

Run whatever you’d enjoy going to, and putting on

Here are some ideas, feel free to use these, or come up with others. We encourage events of all sizes. Small events are often more impactful. And we encourage events that are both serious, and seriously fun!

Talk, panel, or open discussion

Presentations, debates, discussions. Panels work best with people who disagree. Please take notes and share with us (and everyone) what you discussed!

Workshop or training

People leave able to do something they couldn’t before: political organizing, civic tech making, civic education (with a twist?), or whatever brings you alive.

Civic jam, hackathon, or demo night

Builders, designers, organizers and researchers in a room with real problems. Low tech counts as much as software.

Dinner with a real conversation

Small group, one topic, good facilitation and hosting who keeps things moving, and on track. These could be the most powerful connecting events of the week.

Civic action

Voter registration, letter writing, a canvass, or turning people out to a public meeting. Something concrete happens by the end.

Music, arts, food, good times

A screening, a block party, a live podcast, constitutional comedy night, civic improv, a cross-partisan paddle tournament. Democracy should be fun, so let’s make it so.

Not ready to host? Come anyway, there’s plenty to do.
