Democracy Week

SF Bay Area · updated Oct 16, 8:13 AM PDT

Civic events in the Bay Area

Talks, forums, ballot explainers, public meetings, party meetings and community events across the Bay Area, plus online events anyone can join. We’re cross-partisan, and we encourage and support bringing the First Principles of our Democratic Republic into partisan and nonpartisan gatherings.

Country before party. People before politics. Our democracy needs all of us.

Event RSVPs are hosted elsewhere. A listing here is not an endorsement; we list events so you can find them more easily, get connected, and get involved.

SF Democracy Week will be back in Spring 2027. In the meantime, the events continue. More on what’s next.

Show up, and bring the principles

Every kind of political engagement is here

Party meetings, campaign events and advocacy groups are listed alongside nonpartisan and cross-partisan ones, each labeled. Joining a party is one of the most direct ways to shape what it stands for.

Wherever you go, bring basic democracy values into the room: districts drawn for voters rather than for politicians, no hidden money deciding who wins, rules that apply to everyone, and people and country ahead of party. Read the five principles these filters are built on.

How this list works

Who’s hosting, and what we leave out

How we label hosts

Nonpartisan
Libraries, government, universities, the League of Women Voters.
Cross-partisan
Built to bring people from different parties together.
Democratic Party
Party committees and Democratic clubs.
Republican Party
Party committees and Republican clubs.
Other parties
Green, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, American Independent and others.
Campaigns
For a candidate or a ballot measure.
Advocacy groups
Organizing for a cause or one side of an issue.

Labels come from how the host describes itself and how it registers on the platforms we read. If one is wrong, tell us.

What we leave out

  • Campaign volunteer shifts (canvassing, phone and text banks, postcards), for now. There are hundreds a week and they’d bury everything else. They’re a good way in, so look for them on the campaigns’ own pages.
  • Anything that promotes violence or harassment.

Fundraisers are listed and labeled. People chipping in to a campaign they believe in is part of how support gets built; the money problem the principles take on is the hidden kind, from dark money groups and super PACs that don’t say who’s paying.

Most party and advocacy listings here come from Mobilize, which Democratic-aligned groups use far more than anyone else. We’re adding Republican, Libertarian, independent and third-party calendars for the Bay Area as we find them. If your group has a public calendar, send us the link.

Subscribe once, stay up to date

Add this listing to your calendar app as a subscription. New events, changes and cancellations show up on their own, with no need to download anything again.

For any other calendar app, subscribe by URL with https://www.democracyweek.net/events/sf/calendar.ics

Calendar apps check for updates on their own schedule. Apple Calendar and Outlook usually refresh every few hours; Google Calendar can take up to a day.

Where these events come from

Public calendars and feeds, read once a day, plus events organizations add themselves. A person reviews each day’s additions and takes down anything that doesn’t belong.
